EXECUTIVE CHANGES FOR Monday, November 19, 2001
WHO'S HIRING
DataCore Software of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
By Giselle Greenwood
In a turbulent market where most companies are scrambling to stay afloat, DataCore Software, a provider of storage virtualization and networking software, is proving the market wrong. After raising a $30 million round of funding, the company is looking to increase its sales and support teams.

Vice president of marketing Ken Horner says that although it is increasing its staff of 185, the company is remaining cautious by only increasing its headcount to 200 by the end of 2002.

BrightLink Networks Makes Interim CEO Permanenttop   mail
SUNNYVALE, CALIF. -- BrightLink Networks, which supplies optical switching systems for the telecommunications industry, said it named co-founder and interim CEO Paul Schaller as chief executive officer.

Mr. Schaller, 53, assumed the CEO position on an interim basis in May when the seven-member board, on which he sits, asked Harry Quackenboss, the other co-founder, to step down from the CEO position. Mr. Schaller, who hadn't previously held an executive position at Brightlink, had been working as a minister.

BrightLink has extended its Series D round, which raised $36 million in June, for a second tranche in the range of $20 million to $40 million. The proceeds of the financing will be used for working capital. Mr. Schaller said investors from the first tranche may return. BrightLink has raised a total of $113 million in funding.

In October, the company reduced its headcount by 23%; it now employs 100 people. At that time, Mr. Schaller told VentureWire that the company's pre-money valuation for the Series D round dropped to $15 million from its Series C pre-money valuation of $400 million.

Mr. Schaller strongly denied published reports that it was holding acquisition discussions with Cisco Systems.

BrightLink Networks, which was founded in October 1998, is backed by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, DFJ ePlanet, Sprout Group, Menlo Ventures, Global Crossing, Goldman, Sachs, CS First Boston, Vision Capital, Mitsui & Co., Wit SoundView, and W.R. Hambrecht & Co.
