Kevin Hyatt, Enron's director of pipeline business development, worked under Baxter for 2 1/2 years and called him "one of the best mentors I've had."
"He was ruthless when it came to working a deal. Definitely a guy you wanted on your side and not against you," Hyatt said. "But when it came to people around him, people who worked for him, he genuinely cared ... about the employees and their families.
