METRO was created in 1978 and currently has over 3600 employees. METRO plays a major role in construction projects throughout Houston and is involved in the $250 million Downtown/Midtown Transit Street project. Robert Miller will be discussing the long-term plan for METRO and highlighting the new light rail system. There will be a short video on the project followed by a presentation by Robert Miller. In February 1996, the Harris County Commissioners Court appointed him a Director of the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas. He was then elected Chairman of the METRO Board in March 1998 and currently serves in that capacity. He is a former director of the Greater Houston Preservation Alliance, the Texas Lyceum and Vote Texas. He is a Senior Fellow of the Houston/Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Leadership Forum, a graduate of Leadership Houston, Class X, and currently serves as a director of the Houston International Festival.
