FIRSTENERGY SAYS GPU DEAL STILL ON TRACK FOR MID-SUMMER FirstEnergy Corp.'s $4.5 billion cash-and-stock acquisition of GPU Inc. is still on schedule to be completed in the first half of this year, the company's chief financial officer said Tuesday. TEXAS RETAIL ELECTRIC PILOT PROGRAM FACES START-UP WOES Texas' retail electric pilot program, scheduled to begin June 1, suffers from a limited number of active power suppliers and a lack of consumer awareness, but those problems aren't expected to hamper the debut of full power competition next year, a regulatory attorney said Tuesday.
