SOUTHERN COMPANY TO SPIN OFF MIRANT APRIL 2 AFTER IRS RULING
Southern Co. will spin off 80.3% of Mirant Corp.'s shares on April 2, to 
Southern Co. holders of record March 21. In a press release Friday, Southern 
Co. said it received a favorable Internal Revenue Service ruling concerning 
the tax-free distribution of 272 million Mirant shares.
