The Scoop

The session started off on a mildly bullish note with the market averages pushing to new recovery highs.  The favorable news on the war front, a continuation of the bullish momentum and merger news helping to underpin.  The merger news was in the Oil sector with Conoco (COC +6.7%) and Phillips Petroleum (P +2.95) announcing a merger of equals which will create the sixth largest oil and natural gas company in the world and the largest U.S. gas retailer.  Speculation of a potential merger also inspired some sizeable gains in PALM (+12.8%) and Handspring (HAND +35.2%).  Other positives included better than expected earnings from Lowes (LOW +6.8%) and the FDA approval/subsequent...
