Zoo Hardware Refresh!
The Zoo has been undergoing a few changes. The most exciting change is that we have purchased brand new machines that are much faster than the old ones. 12 of these are already deployed in 17 Hillhouse Room 111 and available over SSH.
The 3rd floor of AKW is currently being renovated so all the machines that used to be there are offline. Once renovations are completed, 6 workstations will be added back in.
We will also be deploying 15 more machines that will be "headless." That is, they are accessable remotely over SSH, but are not physically accessible. These machines are even higher-end to support more advanced projects.
All Zoo machines are now running Ubuntu instead of Fedora. For most of you, this won't be a noticable change, but it means some software packages will be on different versions than before. If there is a package that you believe is missing, please submit a support ticket and we will see if we can install it.
The graphic on the homepage has been updated to show the new locations of the Zoo nodes and will show you when the new machines become available.
